How to choose the right fridge magnet size

The right size depends on what the magnet is for. If you are making a set of photo magnets to scatter across the door, the 2 inch mini and 3 inch square are the workhorses: small enough to group into a gallery, big enough to see clearly. Between them sit the popular 2.5 x 2.5 inch square and 2 x 3 inch rectangle, with a 2.25 inch round for buttons and logos. For a single photo you want people to notice, or a mini menu, step up to 4 x 6 inches. When the magnet needs to be the centerpiece, a wipe-clean planner or a year calendar, the 5 x 7 inch large size carries it.

For anything brand-related, the 3.5 x 2 inch business-card size is the classic choice. It sits neatly among family photos and notes without dominating, which is exactly what you want for a promotional fridge magnet that needs to live on the door for the long term. Round magnets in 2 and 3 inch diameters suit logos, badges and playful one-off designs.

How strong is a fridge magnet?

Holding strength comes down to two things: the type of backing and the surface area. A cheap magnet with only a thin strip of magnet on the back grips weakly and slides. Every magnet we make uses a full-coverage magnetic sheet bonded across the entire back, so the pull is even from edge to edge. Because the whole surface is magnetic, a larger magnet has more contact with the steel door and therefore a stronger overall hold, not a weaker one. A 2 inch mini comfortably holds itself and a light note; a 4 x 6 inch magnet will pin several sheets of paper, a school letter or a takeaway menu without creeping downward over the week.

A note on thickness and weight

Fridge magnets are intentionally thin and light, which keeps them easy to post and easy to rearrange. Thickness affects feel and rigidity more than grip: our rigid board keeps the print flat so the corners never lift, while the flexible magnetic layer does the holding. If you plan to pin a heavier item, choose a larger size for the extra contact area rather than expecting a small magnet to do a big job.

Match the size to the shape and photo

A tall portrait looks best in a portrait crop, a wide landscape in a landscape format, and a logo often shines as a die-cut following its own outline. Fridge magnet size questions

What is the most common fridge magnet size?

The most popular everyday sizes are around 3 x 3 inches (7.5 x 7.5 cm) for a single photo, and a 3.5 x 2 inch (9 x 5 cm) business-card size for logos and promotions. Larger 4 x 6 inch magnets are used for statement photos and menus.

How strong is a fridge magnet?

A fridge magnet with a full-coverage backing grips firmly and holds a sheet or two of paper against the door. Holding strength increases with surface area, so a larger magnet holds more than a small one.

What size do I need to hold notes?

For pinning a note, a school letter or a menu, choose a 3 x 3 inch magnet or larger. The bigger contact area gives a stronger hold, so the magnet and the paper stay where you put them.

Do bigger magnets fall off more easily?

No. With a full-coverage magnetic sheet, a larger magnet has more contact with the door and a stronger overall hold, as long as the backing covers the whole piece.
